The place

Capacity: 32 This cabin was bought in 1980 from the Zinal guides by the CAS La Dôle section, which maintains and staffs it for the three summer months, meaning members of the section and a few other volunteers run the warden's post. Hence a particularity of this cabin: there is no half-board service, cooking being limited to providing soups; so if you're craving lasagna or veal Orloff, you'll need to bring the ingredients up and cook them yourself... A pleasant cabin in a rather grandiose setting... This small cabin belongs to the CAS and is managed by the La Dôle section, which handles its maintenance and staffing. The cabin is permanently staffed during the three summer months by volunteer members of the section who welcome you warmly. Cabane d'Arpitettaz does not offer meals, even during staffed periods, except for the Arpitettaz plate (a small Valais-style dish), soup and broth, and a full range of drinks. Everyone must bring their own food, including dinner and breakfast. Feel free to bring whatever you'd like to eat (fondue, pasta, meat, etc.) — the warden will be happy to cook it for you or guide you. During the winter season, the cabin remains open and is occasionally staffed by volunteers from our section. To find out the staffed dates, please contact the caretaker or the cabin directly. To spend the night, and especially during the Haute Route season, groups, trip leaders and guides are asked to notify and book in advance with the person in charge (cabane@arpitettaz.ch). At all times, mountain-goers will find the equipment needed for comfort worthy of the best winter huts, namely: mattresses, blankets and sleeping bags, stove and wood, dishes and cutlery, pots, fondue pots and camping stove. For hygiene reasons, all visitors must bring a silk or cotton sleeping bag liner to spend the night. During the winter season, 14 spots remain available and hikers will need to melt snow for water. In spring, a stream 100m toward the Col de Milon, and occasionally a pipe near the fountain on the north side, sometimes provide access to fresh glacier water. All visitors are required to use wood sparingly, close the doors, windows and shutters upon leaving, and leave this shelter in the best possible condition; our shared safety and the cabin's long-term survival depend on it.
