Cabana dels Pastós
The place
Pastoral cabin (shepherds' "cabana") set at 2141 m in the Catalan Pyrenees Regional Nature Park (province of Lleida or Girona, Catalonia, Spain), close to the major routes of the GR 11 (Spanish Trans-Pyrenean Trail). A notable location at the heart of the high Catalan pastoral lands, in the transition zone between Cerdanya and Andorra. Basic building of local stone with a slate roof, traditionally used by transhumant shepherds during the summer grazing season ("estiu") — free access outside that season for hikers. An outstanding mineral setting of the eastern Pyrenees: subalpine grasslands, glacial lakes (estanys), mountain pine woods, emblematic wildlife including chamois, marmot (reintroduced in 1948), bearded vulture and capercaillie. A stage on the loops linking the Puigmal (2910 m), the Carlit (2921 m) and the valleys of Cerdanya. Conditions of use to be confirmed in summer (the shepherd may be present).
