Standard DOC hut with 6 bunks in Ruataniwha Conservation Park (Canterbury), at 985 m. Built in 1966 by the New Zealand Forest Service, positioned strategically for visibility to trampers crossing Brodrick Pass. Access takes about 9 h (22.5 km) up the Huxley Valley from the Hopkins Valley, at the end of Lake Ohau Road. No booking, payment via hut tickets or Backcountry Hut Pass (NZ$10/5 until 30 June 2026). Avalanche risk in the snow season — caution advised for the nearby Maitland Hut track.
