The place

Staffed refuge at 2307 m at the head of the Val di Valles, on a grassy terrace at the centre of a broad basin of alpine pastures ringed by the highest peaks of the Pfunderer Berge (South Tyrol). Owned by the Bressanone section of the Alpenverein Südtirol (AVS), it offers around forty dormitory beds, a small dining room, kitchen, bar, running cold water, WC, heating and lighting. The first building was erected in 1908 by geologist Raimund von Klebelsberg for hunters; it was purchased and converted shortly after by the Bressanone section of the Deutscher und Österreichischer Alpenverein, with an official inauguration on 18 July 1909. Expropriated in 1923 under fascism and entrusted to the CAI Bressanone section until the Second World War. A key stage on the Pfunderer Höhenweg. Access from the hamlet of Valles, then the Fane alpine pastures (1735 m) via trail 17 in under 2 hours. Open from 1 July to 15 October.
