The place
The smallest Selbstversorgerhütte (self-catering hut) of the Deutscher Alpenverein, Coburg section, set at 2020 m in the Wetterstein / Miemingerkette range (Tyrol, Austria). Footprint of only about 4 × 4 meters. Normal capacity of 4 beds, extendable to 6 if needed. The building was originally miners' housing — a shaft mining silver, lead and zinc ores operated there until 1913; since 1936, the former lodging has been dedicated to mountaineers. No electricity or water connection. Users must bring their own firewood (stored at the trailhead) and gas lamps or candles — blankets, wood stove, dishes and utensils are provided on site. Mineral setting of the high northern limestone Alps: bright limestone walls, alpine pastures, chamois and ibex. Support point for ascents in the western Miemingerkette. Booking through DAV Coburg mandatory.
