Breidablik
The place
DNT hut "Breidablik" at 1160 m in Kvammafjella, one of the most distinctive hut complexes in Norway, in the DNT Kvam Turlag area (municipality of Kvam, near Øystese, Vestland — not Eidfjord/Hardangervidda as one might assume). Set in open mountain scenery with fantastic views. Reached via good marked trails from the fjord, the mountains and other huts; the simplest route: Fitjadalen near Øystese, 6 km on a good trail. No electricity or running water: gas stove and oven, wood stove, solar panels for basic lighting. Three huts: the main one, the safety hut ("sikringshytte") and the "Old Hut", all fitted with bunks. Hiking season June-October; winter travel not recommended. Many options: marked T-routes toward Vending and Kiellandbu, ascent of Skrott.
