The place

Unstaffed DNT cabin (ubetjent) at the head of the Øksendalen valley surrounded by high mountains, managed by DNT Romsdal. Eight bunks; the host handles cooking, cleaning, water and maintenance. Cabin locked with a DNT key: at least one member of the group must be a member. Solar panels for lighting, gas heating, wood stove, 12V power, fishing, swimming, tent site. Year-round road access to Brandstad (12 km in summer then 200 m on foot; 300 m in winter). Popular spring base for ski touring — the standout summit Fløtatind 1,711 m — and summer trails to Øverås and Reinsvassbu. Booking and payment via the DNT app.
