Boyd Hut

The place

Standard 16-bunk DOC hut in Kaimanawa Forest Park (central North Island), at 1,025 m. Two 8-person sleeping areas plus a common room. Central kitchen equipped with a wood stove, dining table, sink with indoor water supply, and a covered deck overlooking the Ngaruroro Valley and the airstrip. An optional steep track leads behind the hut to Boyd Rocks for a panoramic view. Access by small private plane (DOC permit required) via the valley airstrip, or by multi-day tramp from Taharua Road or Clements Road. No booking required, payment by hut tickets or Backcountry Hut Pass (NZ$10/5 until 30 June 2026).
