The place

Historic DOC hut at 877 m in Hakatere Conservation Park (Canterbury, NZ). Built between 1902 and 1906, it once marked the boundary between the winter and summer grazing blocks of the former Hakatere Station. Access: Buicks Bridge car park, 5 hours' walk or grade 2 mountain bike / 13.9 km; Potts River car park, 6 hours / 14.5 km. Free. 4x4 vehicles prohibited in the area.
