The place

DNT Sør cabin (main cabin + emergency shelter) at 1030 meters elevation, just south of the Rjuven high plateau, in the center of Setesdal Vesthei (southwestern Norway). Panoramic view west towards Urdalsknuten, one of the finest sunset views in the Setesdalsheiene. Well-equipped kitchen with gas stove, solar lighting, duvets and pillows; extra mattresses in the mezzanine. Most common access from Berg in Setesdal, 5-6 hours; also accessible from the south via Svartenut, from Bykle to the northeast, or from Kringlevatn to the northwest. Access is prohibited and the cabin is closed from 25 April to 31 May for wild reindeer calving season. From 20 August to 30 September, during hunting season, advance booking is not possible but the cabin remains open.
