Bois de Caboules
The place
Unstaffed cabin set at 1345 m in the Bois de Caboules, in the Chenit sector (Vaud Jura Regional Nature Park, canton of Vaud, Switzerland). A basic, freely accessible building, a rustic waypoint for hikers on the trails of the upper Vallée de Joux. Recent visitor reports point to a deteriorated state of upkeep: worn materials inside and around it, the floor sometimes used as a default sleeping spot. A notable location within the Vaud Jura Regional Nature Park, created in 2013, which stretches from the French border to Lake Geneva and is home to mixed beech-spruce forests, wooded pastures typical of the Jura, and snowshoe and cross-country ski trails linking Le Chenit, Le Brassus and Le Lieu. A mid-mountain forest setting, with emblematic wildlife: Jura chamois, Eurasian lynx, capercaillie, roe deer. An emergency stop appreciated by hikers doing loop routes in the Vallée de Joux area.
