The place
Alpine hut "Paolo Majerna" managed for thirty years by the CAI Boffalora Ticino section, in Carcoforo, Val d'Egua (Valsesia, province of Vercelli, Piedmont — not Brescia / Garda as one might assume). Dedicated to a founding member of CAI Boffalora, an ardent promoter of developing the hut in Val d'Egua. Sunny position at the centre of the valley, close to the Valsesia Nature Park. Splendid ring of mountains, unspoiled setting, visible wildlife (chamois, deer, marmots, eagles, foxes) and remarkable flora. 49 beds spread between the main building and an annex; hot-water showers, home cooking, telephone, winter room. Access: from Balmuccia take the road towards Val Sermenza, Rimasco, Carcoforo (last village); parking, then trail 122 to the hut in 40-60 min. Open every weekend from 24 May to 7 September, and every day in August.
