The place
Bobcat in Goethe State Forest, Bronson/Chiefland area (Levy County, north-central Florida, USA), at 17 m elevation, karst limestone plain. Part of the continuous USA Florida cluster (batches 311-338). A rustic cabin in the Florida Forest Service system ("Bobcat" refers to Lynx rufus, ubiquitous in Florida, roughly 20,000 individuals statewide), in a zone of longleaf pine (Pinus palustris) fire-adapted savanna (a unique Southeastern US biome, once 90 million ha, now reduced to 3% of its original extent over 100,000 years of indigenous stewardship) and karst limestone with underground tunnels at Alachua Sink and Devil's Den (a clear-water cave-diving site of world renown), and home to the Seminole heritage (a maroon-tribal people formed in the 18th century from the Muscogee plus escaped enslaved people, through 3 Seminole Wars 1817-1858, with Osceola as a resistance hero).
