The place
Black Snake Creek Hut in Alpine National Park, Bruthen/Omeo area (Central Highlands, Victoria, Australia), at 238 m elevation, foothills of the Victorian Alps. Continuous Alpine AU cluster (batches 231-313). Historic cattlemen's hut (named "Black Snake" after Pseudechis porphyriacus, the red-bellied black snake, a venomous but rarely fatal Australian snake), zone with Eucalyptus regnans and feral pigs (introduced in the 19th century). Black Saturday 2009 fires severely affected the area.
