The place

Modern bivouac perched at 2531 m atop the Foronon del Buinz, in the Jôf di Montasio group (Julian Alps, Friuli). Built in 2012, designed by architect Giovanni Pesamosca. Dedicated to Luca Vuerich, mountaineer, high-mountain guide and alpine rescuer, credited with over 600 ascents in the Julian Alps and five 8000ers in the Himalayas, who died in an avalanche on 22 January 2010 near Kranjska Gora. Structure of about 16 m² with 8 beds, mattresses and blankets. Always open and free; a donation box helps support its upkeep. Access via the via ferrata Ceria-Merlone, a demanding alpine route with unprotected sections.
