Bivacco Tito Zilioli: A Modern Refuge in the Sibillini Mountains The Bivacco Tito Zilioli, sitting at 2,250 metres in the Sella delle Ciaule area near Forca di Presta, on Monte Vettore in the Sibillini Mountains, is a mountain refuge offering 4 beds in an always-open section and 8 beds in another section, available by reservation. This bivouac enjoys a strategic location for high-altitude hiking, in the heart of the Vettore group's amphitheatre, between the Redentore ridge and Monte Vettore itself, the highest summit of the Sibillini Mountains. History and Modernisation The bivouac was built in 1960 by the Ascoli Piceno section of the Italian Alpine Club, in tribute to Tito Zilioli, an Ascoli-born alpinist who died near the Vettoretto. In 1981, extension work was carried out. Following the earthquakes of October 2016, the refuge was declared unfit for use. In autumn 2020, a complete modernisation was undertaken, turning the bivouac into an always-open section with 4 beds and another section with 8 beds, available by reservation. Access The refuge is accessible from the Forca di Presta pass, from Colle di Montegallo and from Foce di Montemonaco.
