Bivacco Saverio Occhi
Capanna Saverio Occhi
The place
Bivouac at 2047 m in the locality "Plas de l'Asen" at the heart of the majestic Val Grande, in Stelvio National Park (municipality of Vezza d'Oglio, Val Camonica, province of Brescia, Lombardy). Dedicated to the memory of the mountaineer Saverio Occhi, who tragically died on May 17, 1992 while soloing the north face of the western Lyskamm (4470 m, Monte Rosa massif). Inaugurated on September 25, 1994. Note: the cabin is closed and unusable during summer and autumn 2025 — construction work to expand and restructure it, converting it from a bivouac into a staffed refuge. Classic access: a car permit is required to enter the Val Grande (10 €/day, access to Località Le Valli, 1550 m), then a trail along the stream through pastures and rhododendrons, passing the Malga Val Grande before climbing more steeply to the bivouac. An exceptional setting in the high valleys of Val Camonica within Stelvio National Park.
