Bivacco San Paolo in Alpe
The place
Bivouac at 1030 m on a plateau in the heart of the Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna National Park, municipality of Santa Sofia (Forlì-Cesena, Emilia-Romagna). Building split in two: one part always open as a temporary shelter, the other bookable as a bivouac. Eight sleeping spots (four wooden, four camp beds), no toilets. Run by the social-promotion association Tour de Bosc, which limits bookings to a single consecutive night. Access via ~40 min of easy walking on a good forest road that crosses the beech forest from the car park. Exceptional setting of open mountain pastures on the edge of the Sasso Fratino Strict Nature Reserve, UNESCO-listed in 2017.
