The place
Bivouac at 1920 m in the Riale area, the highest permanently inhabited village in Ossola (upper Valle Formazza, province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Piedmont). Right next to the Centro del Fondo di Riale — the Ossola cross-country ski area and the Morasco dam. An alpine setting in a high Walser valley, typical stages on traverses toward the Passo San Giacomo and the Swiss border, a strongly glaciated area with the nearby Basòdino.
