Bivacco Palcoda

The place

Bivouac set up in the abandoned village of Palcoda, at 627 m in the municipality of Tramonti di Sotto (Pordenone, Friuli-Venezia Giulia), in the Carnic Prealps. The hamlet, frequented from the 5th century by nomadic shepherds, thrived from the 17th to the 19th century thanks to farming, herding and trade — notably straw hats made in Bassano and resold in Holland by the Masutti family — before being completely abandoned. In 2011, an equipped area was set up near the church to welcome hikers and pilgrims. Good thermal insulation, four sleeping places, pots, wood supply and some food supplies. Water from the Chiarzò stream 3 minutes away. Restored church and bell tower, open to the public; the bell can still be rung before setting off.
