Bivacco Il Frassino
The place
A small open bivouac set at about 840 m in the Acquerino-Cantagallo nature reserve, commune of Cantagallo (province of Prato, Tuscany). A building fitted with an indoor fireplace, some spaces of which are entrusted to the Trekking Group "I Pentolai". A remarkable location in the Prato Apennines sector, in the transition zone between Mugello, Marradi and Casentino. Nearby: the ruins of La Macchiottola, traces of World War II battles, and the Acquerino-Cantagallo state nature reserve (1,873 ha) renowned for its beech forests, protected flora (orchids, lilies) and wildlife (Apennine wolf, red deer, roe deer, wild boar). A stage on the Pratomagno-Mugello routes and the Cascina di Spedaletto - Faggione - Bivacco Il Frassino - Cascina Le Barbe loop.
