Bivacco Giulio Tifoni
The place
Refuge-bivouac at 1350 m at the locality "Capanne della Rossa" on the Orsaro range, municipality of Pontremoli (Massa-Carrara, Tuscany). Voted for in April 1988 by the executive committee of the CAI Pontremoli section and inaugurated on 7 October 1990, the shelter honours the memory of Giulio Tifoni, the section's vice-president, deeply attached to this place. Restoration carried out by heritage-building specialists and volunteers using materials found on site (stones, flagstones for the roof and floor). Classified as a CAI waypoint, always open, equipped with 5 sleeping places, a stove and charging outlets; a water source 5 metres outside. Useful in winter for hikers in difficulty.
