Bivacco Giovarello
The place
A free bivouac set at 1508 m in the Tosco-Emiliano Apennines, a stage on a fine alpine traverse from Apella (Tuscany, municipality of Licciana Nardi, province of Massa-Carrara) to the foot of Monte Losanna (1856 m). The full two-day route is built around the Bivacco Giovarello: Apella (695 m) → Passo Giovarello (1762 m) → Monte Bragalata (1836 m) → Monte Losanna (1856 m) → Passo Compione (1784 m) → Tornini → Nuda di Iera (1840 m) → Passo Compione → return to Apella. The area lies within the Tosco-Emiliano Apennines National Park, renowned for its glacial landscapes (Lago Squincio, prati di Sara), historic beech forests and network of trails linking Cusna (Reggio area), the Apuan Alps and Lunigiana. A mineral setting among the border peaks between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, with emblematic wildlife: golden eagle, roe deer, wild boar, Apennine wolf.
