Bivacco Giorgio Casalegno
The place
Italian bivouac located in the Valle del Gran Miol, on the left bank of the Valle Argentera (Piedmont), at 2,515 m altitude. The bivouac is housed in the former XXIII barracks used during the Second World War and still bears wartime graffiti as well as a commemorative plaque dedicated to the partisans who defended the valley. Capacity of 8 to 10 beds with mattresses and blankets. Water is available along the access path. From the bivouac, you can reach the Colle Mayt (2,706 m). Always open, generally with a key in the lock.
Getting there
Accessible depuis le col de la Mayt (frontière France-Italie), visible en contrebas. Ou par le col de la Fionière (frontière également) en passant par les lacs, environ 45 min. Par le versant italien (Valle Argentera) : depuis le parking (~2108 m), sentier balisé le long du Rio del Gran Miol, ~4,8 km, +581 m, 2h à 3h30 selon le tracé.
The setting
Situé en Valle Argentera (versant italien), à la frontière France-Italie près du col de la Mayt et du col de la Fionière. Le sentier longe le Rio del Gran Miol et présente une petite cascade. Prolongements possibles vers le Colle Mayt et les Laghi Fionere.
