The place

Bivouac at 2030 m just below the summit of the Vigolana (province of Trento, Italy), at the foot of the Madonnina and the Frate, two large rock monoliths. The first shelter was built in 1966 by volunteers of the SAT of Caldonazzo, on a rocky shoulder, dedicated to Giambatta Giacomelli, founder of the SAT group. It was a red metal box similar to those used by ANAS along the roads, with six sleeping places. In 2016, the old bivouac was replaced by a new eight-bed wooden structure shaped like an inverted truncated pyramid, inaugurated on 4 September; materials were airlifted by the Helicopter Unit of the Autonomous Province of Trento, with the work carried out by SAT volunteers.
