Bivacco Fratelli Fanton
The place
Bivouac at 2667 m at the Forcella Marmarole (Marmarole group, Belluno Dolomites, province of Belluno, Italy). The new bivouac, dedicated to the siblings Berto, Arturo, Paolo, Augusto, Luisa, and Teresa Fanton, was airlifted into place by helicopter on 9 September 2020 by technicians from Heliswiss International and Elifriulia, accompanied by volunteers from the CAI Cadorina section of Auronzo and mountain rescue, then inaugurated on 28 August 2021. The project, winner of an international architecture competition that drew 273 entries, was designed by Studio Associato DEMOGO of Treviso. The old bivouac, placed in 1963 in the upper Val Baion at 1750 m due to bad weather, remained about 1000 m below its originally intended location: the new structure restores the original site at the forcella.
