The place
Small unguarded bivouac at 1838 m at the foot of the Piz della Forcola, in the municipality of Gordona (Sondrio), in Valchiavenna (Lepontine Alps, Lombardy). The site sits on a former trade route in use until the Passo dello Spluga road opened in 1838; in the early 20th century, smugglers used it for trafficking with Switzerland. Today it is simply a hiking destination. Very small but very tidy, set on a beautiful meadow overlooked by the Pizzo della Forcola. Classic access from Voga, as a loop via the Alpe Cima.
