The place

Emergency bivouac shaped like an octagonal igloo at 2,178 m at the summit of the Grigna Meridionale (Grignetta), above Lecco in Lombardy. Owned by the CAI Lecco section. Capacity of six to eight places. Aluminum structure on the outside, wood and cork inside, about three and a half meters in diameter, nicknamed "igloo" or "spaceship" for its resemblance to such a craft. Donated by the widow of mountaineer Bruno Ferrario, originally designed as a memorial chapel then converted into an emergency shelter. Transported piece by piece after an initial helicopter-lift attempt ended in a fall into the ravine amid strong gusts.
