The place

Bivouac set at 552 m near the Torre di Montalto, in the municipality of Premilcuore (province of Forlì-Cesena, Emilia-Romagna), at the gates of the Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona, Campigna National Park. A strategic base for excursions within the Park and along the Alta Via dei Parchi. Capacity of 10 beds, water available 200-300 m from the cabin. Accessible year-round by requesting keys from the CAI Forlì section (tel. 338-7601333, info@caiforli.it). The area is famous for its centuries-old beech forests (listed as UNESCO World Heritage as part of the Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe), its historic mule tracks, Camaldolese hermitages, and iconic wildlife such as the Apennine wolf, roe deer, red deer, and wild boar. The Park covers 36,000 hectares straddling Tuscany and Romagna, in the Monte Falco and Monte Falterona sector (source of the Arno).
