The place

Historic bivouac at 1994 m at the Bocchetta di Campo, deep in the Val Grande National Park (Piedmont). Built in 1897 by CAI Verbano as a shelter on the "Sentiero Bove" route, the Pogallo ridge circuit. Destroyed during the Second World War, rebuilt in 1999 and split vertically in two: one half bivouac, the other for the Forest Rangers. The open section offers about twenty bunks with basic cooking equipment, a few mattresses, and a wood stove. Always open. Key stage of the Sentiero Bove traverse (3 days) along the ridge between the Cima Binà and the equipped sections.
