Rifugio Alpe Bernasca

The place

Unstaffed rifugio at 2093 m on the sella del Pizzolo, in the upper Valle Bernasca — a lateral valley of the western side of the Val Madre, descending from the south of the Valtellina Orobie Alps (province of Sondrio, Lombardy). An exceptional panoramic position near the laghetto della Bernasca, with remarkable views over the eastern part of the Masino group, the upper Valmalenco, the Scalino-Painale group and the central Orobie. Managed by local CAI sections (CAI Valmalenco, CAI Sondrio), the bivouac is part of the network of open shelters on the Orobie highlands. Classic access from the Val Tartano via the Passo della Dordona, in a loop with the Bivacco Gusmeroli and the Rifugio Cà San Marco. A mineral and lakeside setting typical of the Orobie divide: high-altitude lakes, alpine pastures, Bernina-Disgrazia-Adamello panorama.

Getting there
