The place
Білі Косачівка (Bili Kosachivka, "white Kosachivka") in Kyiv oblast, Ivankiv/Chernobyl Exclusion Zone area (Ukrainian Polissia, Ukraine), at 129 m elevation, about 10 km south of Chernobyl reactor No. 4. Continuous Ukraine cluster (batches 220-334). Former izba of an evacuated village (Chornobyl disaster, 26 April 1986, displacement of 350,000 people; 2600 km² exclusion zone, PES-1 then PES-2, Belarus/Ukraine; disaster tourism permitted 2011-2022, closed due to the Russian war), part of the heritage of the Polissyeeny ("Polesians," inhabitants of Polissia with a marshland culture along the Pripyat) and of resilient biodiversity (Eurasian lynx Lynx lynx, grey wolves Canis lupus, some 300 individuals, Przewalski's horses Equus ferus przewalskii reintroduced in 1998, some 300,000 head across the exclusion zone).
