Bifertenhütte
The place
Bifertenhütte SAC at 2482 m on a vast high plateau above Brigels (Surselva, Grisons, Switzerland), at the foot of the Kistenstöckli (2745 m), on the border between the Glarus Alps and the Grisons. Magnificent panorama from the Silvretta to the Rheinwaldhorn. It takes its name from the Bifertenstock — the second-highest peak in Glarus — which attracts experienced mountaineers with its unique routes on the Bänderweg and the Eisnase. Capacity of 24 beds. Unstaffed hut, closed in winter; the staffed summer season usually begins on 21 June. Reopened after renovation in 2018 under the name Bifertenhütte – Camona Durschin. A classic starting point for alpine hiking, mountaineering and glacier tours. Via the Muttseehütte, the trail passes in front of Switzerland's largest pumped-storage hydroelectric plant, through the Kistenpass (2725 m).
