The place
Staffed hut at 2,077 m in the Karwendel massif near Absam (Austrian Tyrol), category I, run by the Alpenverein Innsbruck section. Sixty-two places in total (thirty-four beds and twenty-eight dormitory mattress places). 2026 summer season from 3 June to 4 October, weather dependent. Unlocked emergency shelter on site. "Umweltgütesiegel" (environmental label) and "So schmecken die Berge" (local cuisine) certifications. Year-round activities: hiking, climbing, via ferrata, mountain biking.
Getting there
Normal route from Absam in 3h30 (780 m elevation gain from the start). Route from the Hafelekar upper cable-car station in 4h30 (from 2,256 m). A taxi service to intermediate altitudes can shorten this to 3-3h30. Large car park at Halltal, road closed to public vehicles.
