Bergerie de l'Orri
The place
Sleeping places: 4 4 places on a sleeping platform. 1 table 1 corner fireplace 3 foam sleeping mats 2 pots on site 1 bbq grate Nothing special and fairly busy (being close to the road) but very sound and perfectly usable. A small stream running all year round nearby (treat the water — livestock grazing!). Firewood 500 m away on the flat. In summer, from the bend at 1750 m on the road climbing to the Col de Pailhères from Mijanès, head straight south down to a small lake, skirt it on the left, cross a hillock covered in fairly tall heather, continue straight south for 300 m — the sheepfold is right before you reach the stream. It really comes into its own in winter when the pass is closed: access from the Mijanès resort — head due west, passing between the pistes and the road, and follow the valley up for 2 km. The hut sits on a hillock where the valley widens. A good snowshoe starting point for the Tarbésou. I named this sheepfold after the "jasse" it sits in, curiously called the "Bac de l'Orri". Bac?? => Ubac? As for "Orri", it means "small hut", so "bergerie de l'Orri" is a bit of a tautology. The IGN map names the spot "Orri" though I never found one there...
Getting there
En été, l'accès se fait depuis un virage situé vers 1750 m sur la route du col de Pailhères au départ de Mijanès : on descend vers le sud en direction d'un petit lac, qu'on contourne par la gauche, puis on poursuit environ 300 mètres au sud, au-delà d'une butte couverte de bruyères hautes, jusqu'au ruisseau proche duquel se trouve la cabane. En hiver, l'accès depuis la station de Mijanès consiste à cheminer vers l'ouest entre les pistes de ski sur environ 2 km.
The setting
La cabane est posée dans un secteur de landes à bruyère, avec la forêt à moins de 100 mètres, dans la vallée de la Maure, entre la station de ski de Mijanès et le sommet du Tarbézou. Un petit ruisseau permanent coule à proximité mais son eau, fréquentée par le bétail, nécessite d'être traitée avant consommation. La proximité de la route lui vaut une fréquentation régulière de visiteurs.
A bit of history
Le nom « orri » est un terme occitan/catalan pyrénéen désignant déjà une « petite cabane ».
A word from the warden
Non gardée, accès libre, gratuit. Capacité de 4 places sur un bat-flanc unique. Entretenue par l'association locale « Le Counc en Donézan ».
