Bayreuther Hütte
The place
Staffed refuge of the Deutscher Alpenverein (Bayreuth branch), set at 1600 m on the sunny side of the Rofan massif (municipality of Münster-Kramsach, Tyrol, Austria, Inn Valley/Alpbach Valley area). An exceptional panoramic position at the crossroads of the Inn, Alpbach and Ziller valleys — an open view over all three great Tyrolean valleys. The building was originally built in 1908 as a private 'Rofanhütte' by the Lentsch family of Hall in Tirol; it was sold to the Bayreuth branch of the DAV on 26 April 1926. A family of hut wardens has run it for over 20 years, offering the warm welcome regulars appreciate. Opening period: 23 May to 9 October (last overnight stay). Classic access from the Grünsbach district of Münster — the path climbs steadily along a forest road up to the refuge. A base for the summits of the Rofan: Rofanspitze, Sagzahn, Vorderes Sonnwendjoch (2224 m). A mineral setting typical of the northeastern Limestone Alps, home to iconic chamois, ibex and golden eagle.
