Bark Bay Hut

The place

Great Walk hut on the Abel Tasman Coast Track in Abel Tasman National Park (Nelson/Tasman). A 34-bunk hut on the shore of Bark Bay, at 11 m elevation. Reachable on foot via the Coast Track or by water taxi; 3-4 h from Anchorage Hut (tide-dependent) and 4 h 30 to Awaroa Hut. No cooking gas or lighting — bring a portable stove, fuel and candles. Standard DOC hut tickets and Backcountry Hut Pass not valid: online booking required. Seasonal rates (peak season Oct-Apr): adult NZ$55, international NZ$84; children half price; infants free. Off-peak NZ$33-42. Beautiful sandy beach, kayaking and swimming on site.
