The place
Балаган Ветренный (Balagan Vetrennyi, "Windy Balagan") in the Republic of Adygea, Maykop/Guzeripl area (Western Caucasus, Russia), at 1,910 m elevation, on the main range. Part of a continuous Russia-Caucasus cluster (batches 260-321, ~28 entries). A balagan (a shingle-roofed Caucasian shepherd's hut, its name evoking the fierce alpine winds), in an area of Caucasian alpine pastures and the UNESCO-listed Caucasus Reserve (1999). Heritage of the Adyghe people (a Northwest Caucasian Circassian people, a diaspora of 5 million scattered by the 1864 genocide under the Russian Empire).
