The place

Staffed refuge Rifugio Scoiattoli, located at the foot of the Cinque Torri (Five Towers), an iconic symbol of Cortina d'Ampezzo, within the Dolomiti d'Ampezzo Natural Park (province of Belluno, Veneto, Italy). About 13 km from Cortina, on the road to Passo Falzarego and Val Badia. A stage on the Alta Via 1 through the Dolomites. Quick access by chairlift from the parking area, or on foot (spectacular views of the Averau during the climb). A ski-in refuge in winter, right next to the outdoor Great War Museum. Recommended opening period June to September. Booking recommended.
