Historic musterer's (merino sheep-mustering) and gold-digger's hut from the Central Otago Gold Rush of 1861-64, area of high-elevation red tussock Chionochloa rubra, heritage of Kāi Tahu (the southern Ngāi Tahu iwi, 60,000 people, the largest iwi in the South Island) and of the 1861 Otago gold rushes (200,000 prospectors, southern Chinese making up 40% of Alexandra's population).
