Awaroa Hut
The place
Awaroa Hut is a 26-bunk Great Walk hut located on the Abel Tasman Coast Track at 21 m altitude, in the Golden Bay area of Abel Tasman National Park (Nelson/Tasman region, New Zealand). Wood stove, filtered water tank, woodshed and flush toilets. The Abel Tasman Coast Track huts have no gas cooking or lighting: bring a portable stove and fuel, as well as candles (Awaroa is the only one still using candles, but the DOC does not supply them). Booking required (Great Walk), mattresses provided but bring your own sleeping bag. Backcountry Hut Passes/Tickets are not accepted. Important: the Awaroa Inlet can only be crossed during daylight, within a window of 1h30 before to 2h after low tide. Access on foot or by boat on the Mosquito Bay - Awaroa section.
