Ässkogstorp
The place
Small rural cabin ("stuga") set at 55 m in the province of Närke (Örebro län, Sweden), on the southern edge of the great Tiveden forest massif. A remarkable location between the forests of Tiveden National Park (established in 1983) and the cultivated plain of the Örebro province. Tiveden — a legendary forest on the historic border of Västergötland and Närke — holds exceptional landscapes of granite erratic boulders, glacial lakes (Unden, Sänksjön) and peat bogs dating back to the Ice Age. Small traditional rural cabins in this area preserve the memory of 19th-century subsistence farming life: woodcutters' huts, isolated farms, old "torp" (small farmsteads). A rustic stopover for hikers travelling the trails of southeastern Sweden, accessible from Karlsborg, Askersund or Örebro. Northern European forest setting: pines, birches, spruces, iconic wildlife including elk, boreal lynx and eagle owl.
