The place

New Zealand Alpine Club lodge at the heart of Arthur's Pass National Park (Canterbury), 2 hours' drive from Christchurch. Capacity 27 beds across 3 rooms: room A, 9 beds (4-person platform + central bunk + 4 above); room B, 15 beds (5 bottom + 5 middle + 5 top); warden's room, 3 beds (double + single bunk above). Tucked among the trees at the end of School Terrace, above the DOC HQ in Arthur's Pass Township, 5 minutes' walk from the train station and 2 minutes from the DOC Visitor Centre, with vehicle access and on-site parking. Warden present December-March. Booking via the NZAC online shop.
