Army Hut

The place

Basic 4-bunk DOC hut at 547 m in the Snowdon Forest Conservation Area (Southland, NZ). Free. Three possible approaches: public track from the Kiwi Burn swing bridge via the Whitestone River; up the Upukerora riverbed from Ladies Mile Road (off Kakapo Road); riverbeds are open for public access but adjacent land (both public and private) is off-limits without landowner permission — no hunting either.
