The place

Alpine pasture hut (Berghütte) at 1030 m in the municipality of Blaichach-Säge, in the Iller valley (Allgäu, Bavaria, Germany). Address: Ostertalweg 6. A small refuge typical of the Allgäu Prealps, at the heart of the Bavarian pre-alpine range. A notable position on the first foothills of the Allgäu massif, on the edge of the great crossings toward Hindelang, Oberstaufen and the Nagelfluhkette. A mid-mountain forest setting: fir woods, summer alpine pastures, landscapes typical of pastoral Allgäu (dairy farming of European renown — grazing of "Allgäuer Braunvieh" cattle). Wildlife typical of the German Prealps: chamois, roe deer, red squirrel, capercaillie in protected areas. Access from Blaichach-Säge via local marked trails. Conditions of use (sleeping, access) to be confirmed with the local manager.
