DAV Alplhaus Refuge: A Self-Catering Mountain Hut The Alplhaus refuge, formerly Alpelhaus, is an unstaffed self-catering hut of the DAV Munich section. This self-catering hut is located above Telfs in the Alpltal at 1506 m altitude in the Austrian state of Tyrol. Open year-round, the hut can only be booked by Alpenverein members and requires a key to access. History In 1865, the first hut was built by Matthias Seng, a farmer from Wildermieming, as a summer residence. Hermann von Barth recounts in his book "In the Northern Limestone Alps" how, in 1873, he entered through the cellar and used the Alpelhaus as a shelter while exploring the Mieming mountains. In 1890, the Alpelhaus was acquired by the DAV Munich section of the German Alpine Club. Between 15 and 17 March 1921, the hut was destroyed by fire and completely looted, after having been broken into. In 1924, the hut was entirely rebuilt from scratch, as the old walls could no longer be used. Construction costs amounted to around 150 million crowns. In 1939, the DAV Munich section purchased about 2000 m² of land around the Alpelhaus from the municipality of Telfs for 300 Reichsmarks. After the Second World War, the hut was under the trusteeship of the Austrian Alpine Club until 1956. In 2017 and 2018, a general renovation, including fire-safety measures, was carried out at the hut. Access From Telfs via the Klammersteig trail: 3.0 hours.
