المعيزيل ("Al-Muiziyel", a small Berber hamlet) in the Cyrenaica region, Al Marj/Al Bayda area (north-east Libya, Jebel Akhdar, Libya), at 277 m elevation, in the foothills of the Jebel Akhdar. Continuous Libya cluster (batches 343-349, 2 listings). COUNTRY ANOMALY: Libya missing from the country database. Traditional Berber hamlet (the name Al-Muiziyel means "the little goats"), in an area encompassing the Jebel Akhdar "Green Mountain" (the only truly green expanse in the 2 M km² Sahara, with 1500 mm/year of Mediterranean rainfall supporting olives, vines and carob trees, part of ancient Greek Cyrenaica) and Cyrene (a Greek colony from Thera founded by Battus in 631 BC, home of Aphrodite and the Cyrenaic school of hedonism founded by Aristippus, UNESCO 1982), with heritage from the historic Berber Awaqir/Barasa tribes and the Sanusiyya, an anti-Italian Sufi order founded in 1837.
