The place

Standard 8-bunk hut managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in Ruahine Forest Park, Manawatu/Whanganui region (North Island, New Zealand). The building was rebuilt in 2007 after the original lodge burned down in 2005, with support from the Nash family and the Manawatu branch of the NZDA. A memorial dedicated to Alice Nash, a local who frequented the Oroua and Rangiwahia valleys with her children. No bookings; payment via the honesty box: NZD 10/night adult, NZD 5 youth, free under 5 (rates valid until June 30 2026). Adult (blue) or youth (yellow) tickets, an annual Backcountry pass, or cash donations to the Manawatu Deerstalkers Association are accepted.
