The place

Standard DOC hut with 4 bunks at 826 m in Ka Whata Tu o Rakihouia Clarence (South Marlborough, NZ). Main access via Blind Saddle Road from Kaikoura (25 km inland from SH1); locked gate, vehicle access by arrangement with Colin Nimmo (Muzzle Station, +64 3 319 5791), winter closures. No maintained DOC track: map/compass/GPS required. No booking: Standard ticket (adults $10, youth $5, under 4 free) or Backcountry Hut Pass. Dangerous river crossings: check NIWA before departure.
