The place

Open (unreserved, autiotupa) side of a shared Metsähallitus building in the heart of Syöte National Park (Ahmavaara, on the Ahmaoja stream, a tributary of the Pärjänjoki), in Pudasjärvi (Karsikkoperäntie 893, 93280). Built in 1989 of logs, with a major renovation in 2002. The same building also houses the reservable side (varaustupa). Shared yard: sauna, woodshed, dry toilet, two dog kennels, LED lighting. Reached on foot or by ski over about 8 km, with the Syöte Nature Center recommended as the starting point. The autiotupa side does not require a reservation; the sauna is reserved for guests of the varaustupa. During the ski season (February-April), the Ahmatupa café operates on the autiotupa side.
